When the Immune System Gets Stuck: Could SAAT Treatments Help Reset the Response?
What Is SAAT?
Developed by Dr. Nader Soliman, SAAT uses specialized acupuncture as part of an approach intended to address the body’s immune reactions to specific substances.
After meeting Dr. Soliman recently in Maryland and completing education in his methods, I’m excited about the possibilities for my patients and our Florida community. Some of my colleagues in Kentucky and Ohio have also shared encouraging experiences with this treatment; their patients have done extremely well with this method of treatment. Imagine finding relief from your lifelong allergies or discovering that immune system changes are creating chronic issues within your own body: incredible possibilities abound in SAAT!
What Does the Research Show?
SAAT is being explored for several health concerns, including:
Alpha-Gal Syndrome: This condition can develop after certain tick bites and cause allergic reactions to products from mammals. In one published case series, 121 of 126 people who provided follow-up information reported that their symptoms were in remission after SAAT. Larger studies to follow as more scientists get excited about this treatment method.
Food Allergies, Environmental Allergies: Here is where SAAT shines in its simple, “ONE NEEDLE, ONE TREATMENT” mantra. The first visit is diagnostic and application of the needle, the second is a follow up after 3-4 weeks and people can go ahead and live their lives with less fear. No exposure to the substance is necessary, which is a relief for those with food allergies.
MCAS and sensitivities: Mast cells help protect the body, but excessive activation of these cells can contribute to symptoms affecting multiple body systems. Researchers and practitioners are exploring SAAT and other new approaches to managing triggers and reactions.
Long COVID: Research suggests that immune system changes may contribute to symptoms experienced by some people after COVID-19 SAAT shows promise in assisting persons affected, but hasn’t been the focus of a formal research study yet; I am waiting!
Looking Ahead
At Pinduka, I’m passionate about exploring the connections between traditional medicine, modern immunology, and the relationship between the nervous and immune systems.
I’m excited to continue learning and to explore how SAAT may fit into personalized care for patients living with allergies, sensitivities, and chronic health concerns.
Sometimes, new possibilities begin with a simple question: What if we could help the body respond differently?
